Somebody responded with a note saying they want a transcript from my university. WTF? A transcript? Who the hell asks for a transcript? So I thought, you know what, fine. I'll arrange it. Still waiting for an acknowledgment of my faxed signature to the transcript company to release my records. The people who sent the response, they're a fine company in a fine town, so I might as well jump through a hoop here. I set up to get free transcripts for life after one flat fee, since it might come in handy three more times in my life, so why not.

Are there any utilities packaged with Windows to do efficient batch renaming? Just simple stuff like removing caps and maybe replacing bad characters in filenames (ie, spaces replaced with _ or something). Or even just the first.

I'm in a situation similar to a recent diary, where the user did not have the ability to install his own programs or whatever on his computer at work but still had to, like, actually get work done occasionally.

So last night I went to Bar Louie for their $2 burger nights and then went home and watched a couple episodes of Animaniacs. Not bad. They make you buy a drink to get the burger for that price, but $5 for a 1/2# angus beef burger and a beer is pretty doable. A little bit more if you want condiments. I split the burger with someone.

I should just quit my job and go back to school to become that. I miss Sanskrit. I'm going to go home tonight and break out my grammar and maybe some Mahaabhaarata or something. kaala(h) pacati sarvaan.i bhuutaani...

I wore a suit today because I have lunch with $CHIEF_SUCH_AND_SUCH_OFFICER and because I sometimes like to feel pretty. Honestly, it's no more or less comfortable than what I always wear to work, the only difference is that now I have a tie to worry about getting into soup.

Incidentally, I tied it in a Pratt knot. I feel degenerate.

Today was a basic day, it was some Chernev collection for patzers and the mates-in-one. Gotta drill the basics sometimes.

I did poorly on my chess tactics quiz last night. I took another and did worse. So I took a step back and ran through a large amount of easier problems and did decent. I think I should take a day off today. But it's a travel day. Frig, what am I supposed to do in the car if not play chess? Actually, I'm tired of tactical puzzles, perhaps I should have grabbed Ray Cheng's problem book instead.

So I told this girl I was going to be a full-time rickroller and therefore would probably be too busy to ever see her again took it well. She tried to engineer chillin' and drinkin' or something anyway, but I was able to dodge it.

I feel like I'm a character in some Russian novel, one of those young educated roustabouts of decent birth in some irrelevant position as a functionary in the civil service which really has no bearing on who I am and how I think of myself or even my prospects; everything else is just dissipated in drink and cards or chess. Not quite, really, just the feeling of being a stupid functionary in the civil service and its being irrelevant to pretty much everything.

Snow was dashed inconvenient. Four, maybe five, inches. Had to go to church early to shovel, somebody else manned the snowblower while I got the stairs and then salted the walks.

I started a facebook group dedicated to the proposition, and now I'm web-logging about it! There's no turning back now!

So, Thursday, I bought a 12-pack of Goose Island with the idea that I'd have one or two after dinner in the evenings. So, as of this morning, I had consumed two of them, since I went out to a friend's going-away party last night instead of staying in for dinner.

Every Saturday in my house, there's loud HONKing all day. ALL DAY. Somebody blows their nose loudly all day every Saturday. I suspect it's that one roommate's girlfriend. It is loud enough to be heard throughout the entire house. The whole thing is pretty confusing. How can one woman need to blow her nose that much all day? Every Saturday? And so loudly? I blow my nose rather quietly. At least, I don't HONK.

in re: this conversation. even worse than them are the people at the bus who don't realize that they have to get out money or a transit card or whatever until they are standing on the bus keeping the rest of the queue out of the bus. i mean, c'mon, they were waiting for the bus, they had all the time in the world to get their bus pass out.

Today at work I had two cups of coffee because, I don't know, I was cold and I was up early, so I thought, why not? Now it's 4am and I'm awake. Should I blame the coffee? I don't usually drink it, but it seems so convenient in this case.

All my housemates have skipped town. There are dishes in the sink. They are not mine.

Q: Who the hell leaves town with dishes still in the sink?
A: Evil roommates. I know which one did it, too. Drat.
